Kate Middleton v Michelle Obama

She made quick changes from one dress to another on Tuesday, wearing designer labels that stretch from Los Angeles to London.

To an elegant, formal state dinner hosted by the Queen, the first lady wore a white gown with a crisscross halter neckline by Tom Ford, a top-tier American designer.

Mrs Obama's hair was pinned up in a chignon, which showed off dangling earrings. She accessorised with white opera gloves Sexy Cocktailjurken and a silver clutch bag. The Queen also had on a white gown - and a lot of sparkle.

The dress was sophisticated and chic, if not a bit understated, but the duchess put her own twist on the outfit with her black pointy-toe pumps and black satin clutch handbag by Anya Hindmarch. The bag was engraved with her initials.

The 29-year-old newlywed "looks her age. I was afraid the minute she got in the royal family, she'd be wearing clothes that were too formal. "She looks so pretty. The dress is so English. In my opinion, she rarely makes a mistake, and today is no different."

Her ice-blue, floral-jacquard dress was by California designer Barbara Tfank, which she paired with a light purple bolero.

"The colour of her dress, the print - it all seems like an homage to the Queen," said Betts, a contributing editor at Time magazine.

Betts noted that Mrs Obama wore a cardigan sweater when she first met the Queen two years ago, sparking debate whether she had taken too literally the casual sportswear style that is the signature of American fashion. "I think she wore that bolero jacket as a wink to the cardigan thing," she said.

Mrs Obama also went with President Obama to Westminster Abbey and 10 Downing St, to meet British Prime Minister David Cameron. For that, she wore a purple dress by Serbian-born Roksanda Ilincic with a bright blue coat by New York-based Narciso Rodriguez.

That came after an electric blue ensemble by British label Preen she wore for her late-night arrival at the Stansted Airport. Her dangling, teardrop earrings were made by Hollywood favourite Cathy Waterman.

No matter how we humans glamorize our lives with expensive, finer clothes, it's always the character that should matter the most. The Obamas may look the part, but I sincerely doubt if they really feel being the president and first lady of my country. When they went on an extravagant date on my money not long after he was elected, that did it for me as far as looking up to them as our supposed prime Korte Trouwjurk examples. Yes, I would like a saint ruling America, an wise one who would show Americans the right way to live. split voor Prom Dresses With millions of us having lost jobs and homes, need I say more?

I want a leader who has learned to rule his spirit, a pretty high expectation especially nowadays, when right and wrong are all mixed up. If I were the president, I would stay in the country, and stick around the Oval office and just have online or satellite conferences with other so-called leaders, and dine on cheap but healthy foods. Austerity and discipline should be a way of life, particularly if we truly want to fix our world. Solutions are staring us right in the face; we just don't want to swallow them "and grow up.
