15 Most Kick Ass Musicians

Scott Pilgrim will be out and on Friday and with his band SEX BOB -OMB we here at Mania thought it would be nice to celebrate the kick ass musicians of film and TV. Some are real musicians, some not so real, and some fall somewhere in the middle. It a hodge-podge of musical goodness, from the earlier, simpler times, right up to the present day. There something here for everyone, so lay back a spell and enjoy our list of kick ass musicians. It is better than Freedom Rock. Well, then turn it up, man.

15. Saving Silverman Diamond in the RoughSaving Silverman gets a nod for being a movie with a strong Neil Diamond vibe, and a cameo by the man himself. Jack Black, Jason Biggs and Steve Zahn are long-time friends who form Diamond in the Rough, a bitchin Neil Diamond tribute band. Whatever else might happen in the movie is irrelevant; it all about Neil!

9. Hedwig and the Angry InchHedwig makes the list as our favorite cross-dressing rocker with a mutilated pickle. East Germany most prized import, Hedwig puts the in glam rock. While Hedwig and the Angry Inch is a fantastic film that has garnered quite a cult following, Hedwig will also offend many with a weak constitution one of the reasons we love him her him so much.

8. Welcome to the Dollhouse The QuadraticsWhat band can kick ass with a guy playing a clarinet? The Quadratics from the 1995 gem, Welcome to the Dollhouse. The beauty in the clip is that nothing really fits, from the hunky singer, nerdy back-up band, and oddly groovy music they are playing. If this track is available somewhere, we want the download.

7. Blues Brothers - The Blues Brothers

on a mission from God. That mission? Why Avondjurken to spread the gospel of the blues, of course. Indeed, Jake and Elwood created a timeless classic with some of the greatest quotes ever in the annals of film. Known for a myriad of characters on Saturday Night Live, Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi have perhaps become best known as these hilarious brothers.

6. Velvet Goldmine Flaming CreaturesPerhaps one of the best movies to pay homage to glam rock, Velvet Goldmine was a largely overlooked film, but has a soundtrack that can be ignored. One of our favorites is The Flaming Creatures, aka Placebo, covering the T. Rex classic, 20th Century Boy. There are many other notables including Ewan McGregor as the Iggy Pop-like rocker Curt Wild who exposes himself onstage.

5. Six String Samurai A post-apocalyptic America, Elvis, Buddy Holly, Guns N Roses, and Vegas are just a few of the references in this trippy little beauty. Six String Samurai is essentially the battle of a number of musical genres with Heavy Metal attempting to destroy the more classic form of rock. This is a great one to watch if you a fan of martial arts films and good old rock n roll.

4. Star Wars Cantina BandThe most swinging band in a galaxy far, far away, it the Cantina Band, with strange guys playing the music of John Williams, the mastermind behind the Star Wars soundtrack. The Cantina Theme is a great tune and one that easily gets stuck in your head, quickly becoming the soundtrack for your day. If you ever in the Tatooine neighborhood, pop in and see the guys jam you have to leave bruidsmeisjes jurken your droids outside.

3. Monty Python Piano Player/SingerThere have been many hilarious musical moments in the world of Monty Python, but the one that sticks out (no pun intended) is a brief, but wonderful little ditty concerning the celebration of the male organ. Enter Eric Idle, aka, the slick, suave, crooning, piano-playing fellow that would be a hit at any dinner party, or piano bar.

2. O Brother, Where Art Thou? The Soggy Bottom BoysIt seems like no matter what the list, The Coen Brothers have to make an appearance. Our kick ass musician list is no different with The Soggy Bottom Boys filling the bluegrass, good ol whatever the hell you want to call it kind of music slot. Not only did the Coen Brothers score a hit with O Brother, Where Art Thou?, the soundtrack did quite well too. Bravo!

1. This is Spinal TapCome on, who did you think was going to be number one? The band that epitomizes excess, a super group that can turn Stonehenge into a full stage show, and whose amps go to 11! Yes, it Spinal Tap, the greatest quasi-fake rock band of all time. This is Spinal Tap takes top honors for being hilarious, timeless (yes damn it, timeless), and upping the stakes on what rock stardom is all about.

"One of the most overrated bands in the history of music "

I always hate statements like Avondjurken 2013 this. Hundreds of millions of fans all around the world and you say they are overrated. That's like people who say the original Star Wars trilogy is the most overrated movies of all time.

Who are you Dirk to say Kiss is the most overrated? Personally I could take or leave their music but they have been around for 35 years and are still selling out stadiums. Not many bands can lay that claim to fame. If you don't like them more power to you but show a little respect. Though if you are a young guy I can understand why you wouldn't know the meaning of that word.

A History of Tartan

Tartan is associated the world over with the kilt, the national dress of Scotland, and the history of both goes hand in hand. Tartan is a material that can be woven from many colours, and originally it was a sort of 'uniform', the distinguishing feature of the many clans in the Highlands and islands of Scotland. Although there are various forms of tartan or clan 'uniforms', so to speak, throughout the world, the origins of the clans of Scotland and their distinctive tartan dress can be traced as far back as the middle of the 5th Century to Ireland, where the Scots originated. And to this day, these origins are still wrapped in debate and controversy.

The OriginsTartan did indeed originate in Ireland, and it was then introduced to the then unnamed country of Scotland by the Scots, who moved from Ireland to re-found their ancient kingdom, Dalriada. It was they who gave Scotland its name. The very first form of tartan is nothing like its modern day counterpart, being a type of shirt that ended just above the knee, known as l茅ine in Irish Gaelic. It is generally accepted that it was made of linen, and although the earliest references to this garment describe it as light-coloured, it may have been of a darker yellow shade which led to the English describing it as a saffron shirt. In the 16th Century there are many descriptions of the l茅ine and comments made by a French visitor to the country in 1556 are typical:

They wear no clothes except their dyed shirts and light woollen coverings of several colours. This suggests the first attempts at making a distinctive pattern with the material of the coverings - the plaid. However, there is no evidence to suggest that after this time, the Scottish Gaels carried on the Irish practice of making the l茅ine with these stripes.

In later times, coloured stripes were incorporated into the l茅ine to indicate the rank of the wearer; the first attempts at what is now known as tartan. A High King wore seven stripes, one of these being purple - the colour of royalty. The Ollamh (chief man of learning) wore six on his (even then, learning and scholarship was held in very high regard.) However, the shirt gradually went out of use in favour of the plaid. In 1645, at the Battle of Kilsyth, Montrose instructed his men to put away their plaids and to tie the ends of their shirts between their legs. But the men who weren't Irish or didn't wear the shirt as a result of the ruin of the Irish linen trade, had no choice but to wear their plaids. And wool, which before had been a rare commodity in the Highlands, was now becoming abundant thanks to the growing number of sheep herds in the land. And so, the plaid grew from being little better than a rug to a long piece of material between 12 and 15 feet in length, which the Highlanders would pleat round their waists in folds, pull over their heads like a hood and use as a blanket at night. Although the l茅ine was still in use, it was now used as a covering for the upper body while the plaid was used for the lower half.

Evolution and WearThe earliest portraits of men wearing the plaid, held in place by a belt show it to hang as low as the l茅ine, to just above the knee. However, when William Sacheverell came to recover stores from the sunken Armada ship in Tobermory Bay in 1688, he found that only a minimum of the plaid was being worn below the belt:

It is loose and flowing like the mantles our painters give their heroes. Their thighs are bare, with brawny muscles. The remainder of the material was brought over the shoulders and then fastened with a brooch. Upon seeing this very unique type of dress, many visitors commented on the decency of the shortness of the lower half of the garment, especially when the wearer had to bend over and especially on a windy day!

Growing PopularityBy 1730 the patterns had evolved from simple stripes and patterns into what today would be called tartan, from the French word tartaine. And even royalty were getting in on the act. By 1538, records showed that James IV had learnt Gaelic and his son, James V, adopted a variation of the highland dress, wearing a short Highland jacket made of velvet, tartan 'trews', and the l茅ine. The phrase 'Heland tertane to be hoiss' refers to a kind of tight trousers, or hose, a pair of which survives to this day. However, although the dress of the average Scot seems to have been standardised by then, the sett (the pattern of the tartan) of each clan was not; subtle variations of the same clan tartan were still to be found.

Setts and StandardisationAround the year 1618, evidence suggests that the setts became standardised. This became necessary as more often than not, a particular pattern would be identified as the tartan of the predominant clan of a local area, much to the annoyance and inconvenience of other clans in the locality. In 1703, Martin Martin commented on the skill of the weaver:

The Plad wore only by the men is made of fine wool, the thread as fine as can be made of that required in sorting the colours, so as to be agreeable to the nicest fancy. For this reason the women are at great pains, first to give an exact pattern of the Plade upon a piece of wood, having the number of every thread of the stripe on it. Every isle differs from each other in their fancy of making Plaids, as to the stripes in breadth and colours. After the defeat of the Jacobites at Culloden, the English Army routed the Highlands, destroying the Highlanders' way of life. In particular, to keep the people oppressed, clan tartans and dress were banned, and so the cloth-making equipment, including sett-sticks, was destroyed. But even at their lowest ebb, the Highlanders still rebelled, albeit in a far muted way, by wearing trousers of their tartan, subtly woven. Sir Walter Scott believed that the enthusiasm for tartan, a sign of rebellion also in the Lowlands, came from the common hatred of the Union of Parliaments with England. Incidentally, his own works had played a powerful part in extending this fashion of Lowlanders wearing tartan, further helped by the state visit of George IV in 1822.

Although nobody remarked on the traditions of the various plaids and tartans, this may not be true in all cases. For example, the island of Islay's annual rent to the Crown consisted of 60 ells of black, white and green cloth. Incidentally, the island's population consisted of the clan Maclean, whose tartan, the Hunting Maclean, is of these colours. On the other hand, Sir Ludovic Grant of Grant in the early 1700s ordered his tenants to wear Highland dress made of red and green tartan, 'set broad-springed'. Again, these are the main colours of the Grant tartan, but even after Sir Ludovic Grant's orders almost a dozen family portraits at the time of his son show that not even his family adhered to his attempt at standardisation.

Modern-day WearIn 1730, the modern-day kilt evolved - originally worn by an Englishman! Thomas Rawlinson, who conducted iron smelting at Glengarry wore Highland dress in the traditional manner, but found it inconvenient in that he could not remove the upper half of the plaid without having to totally disrobe the whole garment. So he set about dividing it into two halves, which then enabled him to tailor the lower part into what is now the kilt we all know and recognise. It was subsequently adopted by the Chief of Glengarry, Iain MacDonnell and was soon followed by others. The fact that it was an Englishman who invented the modern kilt has been a very bitter pill for most Scots to swallow, but there is compensation in the fact that he didn't invent it; he only made a very convenient improvement that maybe only a foreigner Avondjurken 2012 would pick up on.

Subsequently, it was called the f茅ileadh beag (little plaid) to differentiate it from the traditional plaid, the f茅ileadh bhreacain. It comes from the Gaelic word breacan (party-coloured cloth), and at that time its forbidden use was used for a rallying symbol in an outburst of indignation. When the ban was lifted, a wave of celebration and enthusiasm swept over the country, which gave an instant and resounding celebrity to the achievement of generations of Highland women who had woven the cloth over Vintage Trouwjurk the years. These simple designs that had started on humble handlooms, which put a bit Avondjurken 2012 of warmth and colour into the lives of many in these cold and chilly lands, were subsequently adopted by the Lowland Scots, who were more apt to wear English fashions. The Lowlanders manufactured the cloth by machinery, which led to more widespread wear and the raised status of Scotland's most colourful emblems.

Since these days, tartan has extended beyond the simple, original reason of clan identity. Queen Victoria herself had a tartan, the Johore, commissioned, while native clans such as Currie and MacCrimmon who have every right to have their own tartan, were for a time overlooked. The same happened in the Lowlands; the Armstrongs and the Turnbulls are both native border clans but the latter having no tartan to call their own. Nowadays, everyone gets in on the act - football teams, even countries have commissioned their own tartan, but nobody can argue that all this merely helps to emphasise the importance and emotion that the people of Scotland attach to tartan and the sense of kinship also, which has been an integral part of Scottish culture ever since the first Scots of Dalriada came to these shores.

13 Video Game Women That Kick Ass

Once upon a time there was a damsel in distress, trapped in the highest tower of all the land. As the big bad villain entered her room she reached under her dress, pulled out two fully loaded pistols, and shot up the evil menace until she ran out of bullets. These days, the is indeed in another castle because she blew up the last one. Here to the women who we love to watch kick ass!

13. Princess Peach (Super Smash Brothers) To us, Peach is an abnormality. She gets kidnapped on a regular basis yet she somehow is able to hold her own in a fight in Smash Brothers? Floating in the air, slapping people, dancing around and putting everyone to sleep so she can send them flying off stage with her frying pan. She knows how to defend herself, so why doesn she?! Maybe her and Bowser are kart racing buddies?

12. Bayonetta (Bayonetta)If you ever wondered what a female Dante would be like, this isn going to answer those questions. Same creator, but Bayonetta has a style all her own. We don't know too much about her yet, but we do know that she got enough weapons to make anyone pee their pants. Guns, swords, whips, death traps, and did we mention that her hair shifts into a ginormous demon? Oh, and she transforms into animals too. Is there anything she can do?

11. Princess Zelda (The Legend of Zelda) Only Zelda can be captured in every single one of her games and still be one of the most amazing video game princesses out there. She always seems to find a way to assist Link in his adventures, even if his quest involves saving her. And who can forget her alter-ego, Sheik, who appears in both Ocarina of Time and Smash Brothers. She may get kidnapped as much as Peach, but she definitely give her captors a hard time. And never let her get a hold of a bow and arrow or it the end for you.

10. Tifa Lockheart (Final Fantasy 7)Before we even knew what an RPG really was, calling it game where you have to talk to everybody, we found ourselves falling in love with Tifa when we discovered our first Final Fantasy game. Here Cloud was with a ridiculously huge sword and standing next to him was Tifa, armed with nothing but her fists but still pummeling enemies with everyone else. And while we do love the later heroines we ran into--Quistis, Yuna, up and coming Lightning--and the old school ones we discovering thanks to the DS and PSP re-releases, Tifa is our first Final Fantasy girl and holds a special place in our hearts.

9. Alice (American McGee's Alice)There have been many different interpretations to Lewis Caroll tale of the Avondjurken girl who fell down the rabbit hole but none quite like this. A suicidal main character who has lost everything, Alice is now in an insane asylum after her parents were burned to death in a house fire. Ten years later, the White Rabbit summons her for help in overthrowing the Queen of Hearts and restoring the once peaceful Wonderland, which has been corrupted by Alice growing insanity. If you missed out on this game back in 2000, fear not! There talk of a new installment of the game on next-gen consoles.

8. Faith (Mirror's Edge)Faith is a runner--a person who carries information around the city--and mainly stays out of the way of the government and their activities. But when her sister is framed for murder she sets out to find out the truth and clear her sister name. We are particularly fond of Faith because she doesn run in armed with a ton of guns, the point is to avoid trouble while at the same time jumping right into it to find out what going on. It difficult not to grab the gun lying on the floor, but Faith proves that you don need it to make it to the end.

7. Naoto Shirogane (Persona 4)She probably not as well known as the other girls on this list but she definitely an interesting character. Naoto poses as the prince, hiding her female identity because she feels that she would get no respect as a female detective. But Shin Megami games are never that easy and we get to see a rather dark confrontation between Naoto and her shadow self who discusses a that not-so-subtly hints at an operation to change Naoto gender. Did we mention the creepy laboratory setting with the operating table and giant saw?

6. Jill Valentine (Resident Evil)It was difficult to pick just one girl in the zombie shooting franchise. There are quite a few picks in Resident Evil alone--Claire, Sheva, Rebecca--but there are also classic games like Parasite Eve and newer franchises like Left 4 Dead to choose from. But we have to pick Jill for this one. You have to give her credit for surviving through the first game, beating Nemesis in RE3, returning in RE5, and being a zombie summoning, rocket launching, 2-D fighter in Marvel vs. Capcom 2.

5. Heather (Silent Hill 3)Silent Hill 3 gets bonus points for having a female protagonist AND antagonist. While Silent Hill 3 wasn as much of a psychological mind beating as the second one, it did have one really cool lead character. If anything can capture our love for Heather, it this line she gives to Claudia--the main villainess--when she first meets her:

Claudia: I Claudia.

Heather: Who cares?

Thank you, Heather. Thank you.

4. Lara Croft (Tomb Raider)You can have a list like this without mentioning Lara. It hard to believe that she came into our lives nearly 14 years ago, searching for rare artifacts that always led to bigger, world saving, supernatural being reviving, cult stopping adventures. Equipped with double pistols and enough gadgets to make the FBI jealous, you have to wonder why Lara enemies don just hand her the frickin artifacts to avoid the inevitable beat-down.

3. Nariku (Heavenly Sword)Who can forget that commercial full of long red hair, an epic sword, and one pissed off woman surrounded by an entire army. An early release on the PS3, Heavenly Sword was full of amazing graphics, great voice acting, and of course Nariku. Not only does she wield the legendary sword, but she disproves the prophecy of a male being the one who would take the sword and bring peace to the land. The game was, sadly, very short, but that didn stop us from enjoying the gorgeous hack and slash.

2. Chun-Li (Street Fighter)

We love fighting games and Street Fighter 2 on the SNES was the first one we ever touched. Chun-Li was the only girl on the roster at the time, but she definitely held her own in a fight with her spinning bird kick and lightning fast legs. Back then it was rare to find many girl fighters in these games, but now there always a Cammy, Kitana, Millia Rage, Mai Shiranui, Nina Williams, Talim, and many others. But Chun-Li started it all for us, and for a lot of girl gamers in the

1. Trouwjurken Samus Aran (Metroid)Back when Nintendo was still pretty new to us, when all we played was Super Mario Brothers, Tetris, Duck Hunt, and that one track and field game with the running pad, Metroid came along. Not only was this an awesome game, and not only did it make us obsess over checking every single inch of space to make sure we got absolutely everything, but it had one hell of a surprise twist that gamers still remember today. Samus is a girl. How. Awesome! Growing up in a time where video games were considered a thing it was the ultimate sense of satisfaction.

And we end this article with a few honorable mentions: Jadefrom Beyond Good and Evil, who stars in a game that slipped under our radar but we have grabbed a copy High Low Schoolfeest Jurken for the sheer purpose of being introduced to this reporter out to uncover the truth about her government. Merylfrom Metal Gear Solid, because back when the game came out we weren too interested in it, but after seeing some of MGS4 it hard not to fangasm over the game and the fact that she is a commander--we have a soft spot for female commanders.

10 TV Actors We Want To See In More Movies

They grace our TV screens on a weekly basis but their awesomeness is too amazing to be contained on such a small venue. Today we take a look at a few very talented actors that are full of win and must show up in more films.

10. Tom Welling/ Isiah Mustafa

Tom Welling claim to fame is playing a young Clark Kent in the CW hit series Smallville. During his time off from the show he made a few films (The Fog, Cheaper by the Dozen), not surprisingly he was absolutely terrible in all of them. Now that we think about it, we don want to see Tom Welling in any more movies. So instead Tom Welling is getting replaced by Isiah Mustafa. What movies should Mustafa be in? No idea but if Welling can get a few movies then why can Mustafa get a movie where he is baking a cake in the dream kitchen he built with his bare hands as he is shirtless riding a horse backward while offering people two tickets to that thing they love? Look at the person next to you, now back to here. This article is now diamonds!

9. Alexander Skarsgard

Alexander Skarsgard does the occasional film over in his home country of Sweden but over here in the USA he only known for his TV work in HBO fare like Generation Kill and True Blood, where he currently shines as Eric Northman the vampire sheriff of area 9. Hopefully his turn as Eric allows Alexander to eventually branch out into more films and develop a solid movie career stateside like his papa, Stellan Skargard, has done.

8. David Tennant

David Tennant is a big deal in England where he made a career out of being both a theatre actor; doing tons of Shakespeare with the Royal Shakespeare Company, and a TV actor, mainly known for his portrayal of the 10th Doctor in Britain Doctor Who series. He has displayed great acting range over the years but for some reason film work as mostly eluded him. Outside of a small role in Harry Potter the Goblet of Fire he hasn been in much. With his tenure at Doctor Who over, now is the perfect moment for Tennant to bring his talents stateside and land some nice movie roles.

7. Vincent D style="text-align: justify; margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">Vincent D is acting truth who after working in many films, including genre fare like Men in Black, Strange Days and The Cell, decided to take his talents to television where he currently stars as Detective Robert Goren in Law Order: Criminal Intent. It a nice gig that has kept him busy for the last eight to nine years but he really needs to schedule more movies in between his off season. The guy is too good of an actor to be stuck playing the same role for so long, it time for him to cut loose in more films.

6. Michael Chiklis

It was sad to see Michael Chiklis great portrayal of Detective Vic Mackey come to an end but the silver lining Avondjurken was Chiklis could now shift from TV to a full out movie career. It was clear that he could deliver on that end because he was one of the few saving graces on the Fantastic Four movie and a welcomed presence in Eagle Eye. Sadly, despite his solid work in those films Chiklis opted to return to television by attaching himself to ABC No Ordinary Family. A show about a family with powers sounds cool but not as cool as seeing Michael Chiklis star in more movies.

5. Nathan Fillion

Nathan Fillion and TV show failure went together like Mel Gibson and crazy. Every TV show the man was involved with simply failed. Drive? Canceled. Firefly? Canceled. Two Guys A Pizza Place? Well you get the picture. Yet somehow he has crazy fans who nominate him for any and every role that is out there especially if its comic book related. Think of any comic book character, chances are that no matter how obscure the character you just thought of is, he been linked at some point in time to Nathan Fillion. It seems Fillion has finally broken his TV curse with his latest tv show, Castle, getting a third season. Now that he can be directly linked to failure it time to give the fans what they want and what they want is more Nathan Fillion in any and every movie.

4. Jensen Ackles

From Dawson Creek, Smallville to Supernatural, Jensen Ackles has basically made his living working on the CW network. He doesn have much of a film career outside of My Bloody Valentine 3D but he did good job in that. We fans of his Dean Winchester and still get teary eyed by his fantastic Trouwjurk 2012 work in one of Supernatural most emotional episodes Is and What Should Never Be Just based on his workin that episode it's clear he definitely needs to star in a few more movies. So please Hollywood, stop giving Ackles Supernatural brother (Jared Padelecki) movie roles and instead give them to Jensen Ackles.

3. Jane Lynch

Jane Lynch does a few films here and there but not nearly enough as we would like. She is straight up one of the funniest actresses today. Take for example Role Models, a movie that ain nearly as funny without her. While she mainly known for her funny bone she has no problem stepping outside of the box and doing some drama like she did in Julie Julia. Lately Lynch has been shining on the tube, starting with the canceled before its time Party Down and following that up with her hilarious portrayal of Coach Sue Sylvester on Glee. More Jane Lynch on film can only be a good thing because it obvious the woman can do no wrong.

2. The Cast of Lost

Their island trekking days may be over but that doesn mean we are ready to let go. From A to Z, Lost had a fantastic cast, one that can simply be forgotten. It now time for Jack and the rest of the 815ers to start popping up in a theatre near us. Obviously they all can be the lead in a flick, Hollywood doesn work like that, but in supporting roles they would be fine. Need the poor woman Kate Beckinsale? Kate is your gal. Looking for creepy villains? Locke and Ben, come on down. Sayid playing the muscle for some nasty villain? Yes please! Funny lovable best friend? Hurley step right up. The one guy that should be leading a film is Josh Holloway because who Trouwjurken 2013 the hell doesn love Sawyer? The point is it be a crime to let so much talent go to waste; these guys deserve to start getting some movie work.

1. Jon Hamm

Unfortunately nobody can be told how awesome Jon Hamm is, you have to see it for yourself. Fortunately all you need to do is tune in AMC critically acclaimed Mad Men to find out. His superb work in that series may lead some to believe Jon Hamm can only do drama but this isn the case. He is actually a pretty funny guy as can be seen in his work hosting Saturday Night Live and on 30 Rock. Jon Hamm is basically the complete package; he looks like an old school movie star, has great presence, acting skill and charisma. Simply put the guy is a manicorn! He is pretty much perfect for any role out there cause he cooler than cool and even more interesting than The Most Interesting Man in The World. Jon Hamm doesn always drink beer but when he does he prefers Dos Equis. Stay thirsty my friends.

You mean Firefly was cancelled because it couldn't hold an audience, but I really don't think for the reason you gave. I've got a lot of friends who aren't even sci fi fans that begrudgingly watched it, and they all went out and bought their own copies afterward. I honestly don't think Fox gave it a fair shake while it was on. I don't just like Nathan Fillion for Firefly anyway. Castle is a pretty good show also, and (I know I'm in the minortiy, most likely) I also liked him in Slither. Come on, you know a movie is great when a giganitc alien slug moster turns up Air Supply on the stereo.

Hey, I have a boner for Fillion! LOL!

It's too bad he's not Ant-Man. That would have been cool with him and Longoria as the bickering couple. Perhaps he could play Guardian in the Alpha Flight movie? :)

As for the rest of this list, honestly, I'm not sure if Mustafa is the real deal. Sure his Old Spice commercials are funny but compared to the resume of the rest of the people on this list, he's not even close. We'll see how good he really is with the proposed sitcom he has for the fall.

Lost cast is definitely one of the most talented. Big fan of Mitchell (and deservingly leading V). Emerson and O'Quinn will find jobs in no time as supporting players. But I think the one to really break out is Henry Ian Cusick. Give this man a gig! Every Desmond-centric episodes were some of the best. I would see Josh Holloway as Johnny Blaze/Ghost Rider instead of Nic Cage.

10 Unique Ways To Brand Your Small Business

As a small business owner, you've undoubtedly come across the concept of branding. Most likely, you've heard that if you want to truly succeed and skyrocket your biz to the top, then you need to create a powerful and memorable brand that your prospects believe in.

The main problem is that most small business owners are Vloer Lengte Avondjurken confused, overwhelmed and frustrated about the entire branding process. Is it the creation of a logo? Is it the website? Or, maybe it's the particular combination of colors used in the sales literature.

So, what is branding? According to Bill Chiaravalle, Principal and Creative Director of Brand Navigation, "brands are promises that consumers believe in." He simplifies the entire branding process down to the fact that if a company has done a good job branding themselves, the consumer will trust them and ultimately develop a strong emotional attachment to them.

I want to introduce you to a company that embraces the branding concept brilliantly and, as a result, has built a multi-million dollar business in the process. Even if your office consists of your kitchen table and you're the President, Vice-President and your own personal assistant, you can borrow the concepts of The Geek Squad and incorporate them into your own small business.

When you visit the Geek Squad website, it makes an instant impression on you. Furthermore, you immediately understand they are promising you. They're the funny, dedicated "geeks" who understand absolutely everything about computers. They're the same "geeks" from your math class who knew every answer on the tests and helped you out with your homework. They're safe, reliable and as smart as it gets.

The Geek Squad understands that branding covers every single aspect of business. It's never just about your website or business logo (although that's part of it). Branding is about creating a feeling and a response in the minds of your clients and customers.

The Geek Squad states, "We're an army more than 18,000 strong, on a singular mission to rid the world of rogue technology. We're still oddly dressed, but we're now oddly dressed and saving the day across the globe." Brilliant.

4. Phone Tactics. Yes, branding even entails how you answer the phone. Think about ways that you can integrate your brand and your business phone. The Geek Squad doesn't just "answer the phone." Instead you are prompted to enter your "top secret pass code" or speak to a Geek Squad Special Agent. The on-hold music consists of a compilation of spy movie theme songs.

One of the most important marketing tools for today's small business is maintaining a blog. There is no better way to communicate directly with your prospects, customers and clients. Videos. 9. The Car You Drive. If you are creative enough, branding can even be a part of the car you drive. Take a look at the "Geek Mobile," a compact, little VW emblazoned with the Geek Squad logo. If that doesn't create brand awareness, I don't know what would!

10. Consistency. One of the most crucial aspects of branding a small business is that you must be absolutely consistent. Every single interaction that your customers have must send the same message. You are ultimately creating experiences for your prospects, clients and customers that create trust and build emotional attachments to your company.

10 Tips to Succeed in the USCIS Marriage Interview

Jennie Barbara, a foreign national, and Robbie Nathan, a US citizen, have been married for about a year now. Robbie filed a relative petition for Jennie shortly after their marriage, and Jennie filed for adjustment of status. Despite the fact that everything is going very well in the marriage Jennie is becoming extremely overwrought because she has an appointment with the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) next week for her marriage-based immigrant visa interview. Robbie and Jennie had heard that getting Jennie a green card based on the marriage would be easy. However, after filing the applications Jennie began hearing many horror stories from her friends who had gone through the process. With each new story and each passing day as her interview date came closer, she became more nervous and began to have sleepless nights. Jennie's tensions and restlessness became a cause of worry for Robbie as he knew that this could create problems for her in the upcoming interview and could even plant a seed of suspicion in the mind of the USCIS officer interviewing them.

The "marriage interview," which both of the partners are required to attend as part of the green card process, should not be presumed as simple and easy; it has the possibility of being a very grueling and painful event. You can take the stress and anxiety out of the situation through thorough preparation.

You can begin by gathering the documentation that you will need for the interview. The interview notice you received in the mail has an exhaustive list of the documents you will need to bring with you to the interview, follow it very carefully.

Robbie, realizing the seriousness of the situation, and taking into account his wife's anxiety, sought the advice and help of an expert immigration attorney. The attorney eased Jennie's tension and asked her to keep in mind ten simple things for being successful at the interview. And, to Jennie's surprise, these ten simple tips really worked out best for her.

1. Always be on time for your interview: Never be late. USICS officers expect you to be on time for your immigration appointment. It is always advisable to arrive at least 45 minutes before your scheduled interview time. If you have an attorney, and you are nervous about the interview, or you have any kind of complication in your case, it is very important that you begin the interview only when your attorney is present.

It is important to know that all immigration offices are in secure facilities and you will not be allowed to bring certain items into the immigration building, generally including: cell phones with cameras, matches, lighters, any liquids, sharp objects, and pepper spray.

2. Dress formally and conservatively: The way you are dressed is the first thing that an USCIS officer will see and it makes an immediate impact on them. Therefore, you have to be careful about the clothes you wear on your interview. And remember that you will be entering a federal building and going through security and a metal detector.

3. Be well organized - listen and respond appropriately: The USCIS officer is only given a short amount of time to conduct an interview for each couple - usually only 10-15 minutes for a marriage-based immigrant visa interview. They are highly appreciative when you come to the interview properly organized and are not overly talkative. You should keep your answers short and to the point. If the officer needs more information, they will ask you another question. Do not let any periods of silence intimidate you. It is perfectly acceptable to sit quietly and wait for the next question. When you are asked a question, listen very carefully and answer the specific question. Nothing will fan the flames of an immigration officer's suspicions more than an applicant who does not answer the questions asked.

4. Never guess on anything: The denial of many marriage-based immigrant visa cases have one thing in common: people's attitude that they have to give an answer and guessing. One of the biggest mistakes a person can make is to guess when he or she does not know the answer to a particular question. Instead of guessing at an answer and getting it wrong it's always advisable to say "I do not know" or "I don't remember". Let's look at an example: a husband during his interview was asked what he had given his wife for a gift on their first marriage anniversary. He could not remember what he bought her, but just to avoid embarrassment he told the officer that he bought her a gold ring. When his wife was asked what he had given her, she stated that he gave her beautiful dress. Because of the difference in the answers, the officer will begin to doubt that the marriage is real. Thus it is fine to say that you don't remember instead of guessing the answer and going down the wrong road.

5. Nothing to memorize: Remember that there is nothing that you need to learn by heart for the interview. There are no specific test questions prescribed for the immigrant interview that you have to memorize. That's it.

6. You should be able to present the circumstances under which you met your spouse and portray your journey from engagement to marriage. Remember it's not a police interrogation; it's only an inspection which everyone has to go through so you are not the exception.

7. Be prepared for 'The wedding Game': If the USCIS officer suspects that the marriage may not be real they may separate you and interview you individually. While not necessarily designed to be tricky the questions will trip up spouses that are not familiar with each other. In this case each spouse will be asked a series of questions about the another and their life together, ranging from "Where was your husband born?" to at times much more simple questions such vloer-length avondjurken as "What is your husband's favorite pass time?" Your answers to these questions will be compared against those provided by your spouse to determine your level of familiarity. The USCIS officials' goal is to verify whether or not you and your spouse are indeed living together in an intimate relationship. Remember to pay attention to the details of your living arrangements before the interview period. You may also want to quiz each other on your respective personal information.

8. Be what you are: The USCIS officials are trained to, and have experience at, analyzing body language and interactions between a couple. They are constantly looking for signs that suggest the two of you are not comfortable together, as it happens in most of the "sham or green card marriages" where the two people are in no way involved in an intimate relationship. In an attempt to show that they are married some couples show too much affection, which may appear forced and unnatural, and at the opposite end of the scale some have no interaction at all. You should neither show disparity nor do you need to show too much of affection, just behave as you both always do Be calm and relaxed. A simple sense of togetherness and mutual concern is what wins in the end.

9. Be prepared with the proper documents: Carry a set of original documents and a complete set of duplicate copies that you can give to the USCIS officer. You are expected to provide certain documentation to prove the validity of your marriage. The documents requested include, but are not limited to, wedding invitations, wedding photographs, birth certificates of any children you may have together, property leases with both names featured, photographs of special occasions spent together, joint bank account statements, and other joint financial documents.

10. Seek the assistance of an expert: If you are worried, have special circumstances, or just want peace of mind, it is worth spending few dollars to seek help from an expert immigration attorney to steer you through the whole process. There is a lot riding on the approval of your petition and it is not unheard of for those with genuine marriages to have their case denied as a result of being unprepared. 11 Activities for Building Confidence to Grow Your Business LadyPens

As we start looking toward spring, how are you doing on all your big dreams and goals that you set for this year? If you aren't getting the results you want or are fearful of taking the actions that you know will get you the results you want, don't despair! Now is the time when you want to continue to focus your energy on your dreams and take consistent action. Most people fail because they give up too soon. Don't get discouraged if you know in your heart that you are on the right path but frustrated that you aren't moving as fast as you'd like. Now is the time to focus on your inner energy and your confidence muscle. In this article, I give you eleven activities for strengthening that confidence muscle so that you maintain your energy, focus and momentum and can manifest your dreams.

Pick your favorite three of the following - or try them all - to boost your confidence and get you closer to living your dreams.

1. Give yourself permission to be scared. Being confident doesn't mean that you are never afraid. It means that you trust yourself enough to create a solid plan, try your best, get help when you need it and not give up. A reasonable amount of fear just means you are moving outside your comfort zone and that builds confidence and helps you reach your goals. Say to yourself (aloud): "It's OK that I feel scared right now."

2. Spend time with little kids. Three to six year-olds aren't afraid to say how great they are. They have not yet responded to social cues that discourage bold self-confidence. They happily tell you they run fast, know a lot, can climb very high and are quite cute to boot. Be honest with yourself about your own abilities. If you have great penmanship, shout about it.

3. Take Risks. Approach new experiences as opportunities to learn rather than occasions to win or lose. Risks do not need to be huge to count as confidence builders. Anything that challenges you becomes a risk. For example, drive a different route to work, talk to someone you don't know in your business or in your neighborhood. Sign up for a class you know nothing about. Take an acting class. Volunteer to speak at your child's school or your local chamber of commerce.

4. Use positive self talk. When you catch yourself thinking negatively, tell yourself to "stop and then substitute more reasonable assumptions. For example, when you catch yourself expecting perfection, remind yourself that you can do everything perfectly - no one can. It only possible to take the risk and do your best. Positive self talk reminds you to accept yourself Avondjurken as you are now even as you work to improve. Rather than reminding yourself you aren't good at something or aren't as confident yet as you want to be, tell yourself that you are working toward your goals of mastery and confidence. Talk to yourself the way you would talk to someone you love and respect dearly. Also, if someone compliments you on a job well done, just say thanks. Don't minimize the compliment by claiming the work wasn't difficult or didn't take much time. If you say it, others will believe it.

5. Learn to evaluate yourself independently. This allows you to avoid the constant sense of turmoil that comes from relying exclusively on the opinions of others for your sense of well being. Focusing internally on how you feel about your own behavior, work, etc. gives you a stronger sense of self and prevents you from giving your personal power away to others. If you like the way you dress, don't worry about what others are wearing.

6. Track your progress. Think back (or reread your journal) and note the times you exhibited greater confidence. Just seeing how much your confidence muscle has grown is confidence inducing. Look for how your thoughts about confidence and yourself have changed in addition to how your behavior has changed over time. You are likely more confident in reality than you are giving yourself credit for in your mind.

7. Visualize yourself acting and feeling confident. Picture something you would like to do that you aren't sure you are confident enough for yet. Picture the scene in your mind exactly how you want it to be. What are you wearing? Who else is there? What will you say? Be very specific. Positive visualization builds confidence because it accesses your subconscious mind's ability to make fantasy appear real (think about how easy i t is to be scared during a movie even though you KNOW you are sitting on your couch). Use this technique in general as well as in specific Trouwjurken Met Kant situations.

8. Treat yourself. Being good to yourself builds self-esteem which is necessary to confidence so take the time to pamper yourself and remind yourself how special you are. Get a massage, buy your favorite ice cream, take a day off, light scented candles, etc.

9. Get to know yourself better. Self-reflection helps you access your true feelings, notice progress, consider the sources of your beliefs and revise what bruidsmeisjes jurken doesn't work for you any more. Journaling is one of the most valuable tools for gaining insight into who you truly are at your core and growing confidence. Whatever major change you seek - whether it's in your business, relationships, athletic performance or any other area that matters to you - you simply can not move forward with purpose and intention until you begin to understand the inner workings of your own personality. Greatness is about attitude, positive thinking and creating environments that best serve your own ends. We all have greatness within us and it's up to us to draw it out. Do you consistently see yourself as a follower or as a leader? Do you have optimistic or pessimistic attitudes and/or behaviors? How do you answer the question: Is the glass 陆 empty or 陆 full? What inner thoughts occupy your mind? Do you consider yourself to have a positive or negative outlook? Do you believe people can change their attitude? Do you need or want to change any of your habits or attitudes? How do these questions relate to your current state of confidence as well as where you want to go? Writing down what you want and who you want to be helps make it happen.

10. Learn a new (or pick up an old) sport. This provides physical activity and camaraderie with team members or other enthusiasts both of which increase feelings of confidence. Confidence caused by accomplishment in one area often blends into other areas. Exercise also releases feel good chemicals in your body that help boost your confidence.

11. Get a pet. Being the sole caregiver for a pet builds confidence because you are able to provide for another's well-being. Many pets also give us companionship and unconditional love which boosts confidence (goldfish and ant farms don't really work well for this aspect but can provide the responsibility confidence). It feels great to be the center of another's world. If a dog or cat is too much work or not allowed in your building, small birds and rodents can provide a similar level of feedback.

BONUS: Celebrate your new found confidence! At every step along the way give yourself credit for being where you are and praise yourself when you have done well. Even getting a tiny bit more confident is reason to celebrate. Acknowledging your progress and embracing yourself where you are along the path builds confidence.

"Trust yourself. Create the kind of self that you will be happy to live with all your life. Make the most of yourself by fanning the tiny, inner sparks of possibility into flames of achievement." Golda Meir

The big moment in those reality TV shows based on the idea of making over split voor Prom Dresses a fashion-depressed participant is the Final Mirror Moment. The camera zooms in and we watch for astonishment, gratitude, and a few tears. that really me? she gasps. You want to answer: course it is! And you don look THAT different, just a bit of slap, a haircut and a wardrobe update. The problem is you can see yourself properly. Between you and the mirror lies an advertising world hell-bent on reconfiguring your self-image along with your personal aspirations to the point where you stopped seeing yourself. So, here you are, re-made in the image of the latest advertising campaigns and the big difference is that you can look at your full-length reflection and see a HAPPY creation. No wonder our eyes well up. But imagine how different that moment would be if you were armed with a camera. Girlfriends, we just don play those mirrors enough.

The artist Tete De Alencar goes nowhere without a disposable camera tucked in her bag. It her notebook. Not every image she takes will see the light of day; for one project she decided to transform her used cameras into playful conceptual pieces. Saved from the destruction of processing she decorated and exhibited them instead, images locked inside. For her the disposable camera offers an easy intimacy with her surrounds that is not merely visual. Perhaps this was why when she saw a beautiful but impossibly expensive dress in the shop window of a top designer boutique, it was suddenly not enough to just take a picture and walk on. Intimacy with that dress beckoned and following her fashion weakness, she adopted an air of entitlement, entered the shop, secured the dress and retired to the changing room to get into it. Buoyed by the surreal circumstances she now found herself, she retrieved the camera to face the changing room mirror and quickly photograph her body in the garment. She made sure the flash obscured her face. A simple self-portrait this was not.

What we get is a snapshot, badly lit, with a slightly sordid feel about it, someone squeezed into a frock in a small space. But once the artist motives and setting are understood, it is striking how wonderful these images are: timely, scratchy antidotes to the sleekness of fashion photography. They are acts of subversion.

De Alencar merely wished to indulge her desire to know what such a dress would feel like on her body but, like the majority of us, found real and imaginary obstacles. Enjoying the unexpected of empowerment, she realized that the more she risked the deeper she was delving into universal truths surrounding privilege and women bodies. There was no way she could resist repeating this performance again and again.

The artist arranged to work three very different fashion terrains: New York, London and Paris. She built up a fascinating series of encounters each a performance in itself that exposes sharp differences in the supposedly international milieu of high fashion. The aim remained simple and consistent to try on an expensive dress and photograph herself in it but to accomplish this De Alencar needed to adapt her tactics to negotiate different professional sales styles and attitudes, assuming that is she could bypass security first.

The Changing Room Mirror is held up as a moment of truth, but it a slippery one. To pin us down the National Sizing survey, known as SizeUK, transformed the changing room into a darkened booth. Stripped down to your underwear you freeze while a bodyscanner effectively bathes you in white light stripes Korte Cocktailjurken to create a precise 3D image of your body and take no less than 130 measurements. By 2004 SizeUK had scanned 11,000 volunteers. Not surprisingly clothing retailers were keen sponsors of the project, hoping to use the data to develop clothing ranges and attempt to harmonize sizing charts across Europe, and more. A future scenario does away with the mirror altogether: we will walk into a booth, get our measurements, or rather a kind of unique code, and then just order whatever clothes from racks of samples. We won have to try anything on. Oh the relief. Imagine never having to look at yourself again.

SizeUK volunteers filled questionnaires that revealed how sadly inaccurate our images of our bodies are: generally men tend to overestimate themselves, women underestimate. So much wishful thinking. Is this where fashion high steps in? To adorn those bodies and fulfill those wishes? Then, why do we expect the woman who sees her freshly made-over self in the mirror to break down and cry? It always seems to risk being a cruel moment too. She might realize that her lifelong wishful thinking had quietly slipped her into the straitjacket of stereotype. Stereotyping is persuasive and shape-shifty; to confront it exposes a fine line between a sense of belonging and self-censorship. When it comes to women and clothes, stereotyping can screw us down to wishful thinking rather than critical thinking, and if we think we don fit, we just won try.

De Alencar is not the first artist to challenge fashion stereotyping and take performance and photography shopping. Slicing through the apathy and heading to the changing room armed with an array of club wear ranging from leopard skin dresses to pvc leggings, the midlife photographers Rosie Martin and Kay Goodridge staged a mirror shattering moment. As the collaborators called the Outrageous Agers they recorded their Trying It On performance in a series of startling images that flash their fullsome cellulite and show both women reveling in the havoc their undeniable bodies inflict on these gaudy strips of fabric. It a celebration.

In contrast De Alencar performance in the Changing Room does not create an alternative comfort zone. It is covert. This woman is alone with a garment that is not forbidden by age or social decorum but by lack of money and status and something even more complex: a lack of equivalent worth. Using deceit to reach the Changing Room with a smuggled camera, she wishes to introduce a different moment of truth. Here. Now this is what it really looks like on. It just a dress and often it stupidly small. Who is it meant for? Or would it be better to ask: Who does it deny? No matter how many times she gained access to these garments they remained for the likes of her

Should we Avondjurken accept that we will always be tourists in the land of fashion, buying clothes, or maybe just accessories, as souvenirs? Perhaps all we need is the quick snapshot, but it picnic trying to take the picture on our own terms. So much about fashion reinforces the idea that we can only realise our desires at a painfully big price, especially if we are women. But when is smuggled into the right changing room, De Alencar shows how the power can be shifted. All we need now is the courage to look.
