Kate Middleton designed her own wedding dress

If her friends are right, it is reportedly the bride-to-be who has designed the soon-to-be famous wedding gown.

Despite speculation that couturier Bruce Oldfield, celebrity designer Victoria Beckham and Alexander McQueen creative head Sarah Burton Lange Cocktailjurken would make the dress, reports suggest the frock, which is under guard at Clarence House, was designed by the future Queen of England herself.

The Korte Trouwjurk garment is said to feature ivory satin and lace, pearl buttons, a 3m train and a nod to Princess Diana's famous wedding dress, according to reports yesterday.

Ms Middleton reportedly sought out a young British designer to help her construct her dream dress.

"All we have been told is that the dressmaker is fairly unknown and from a Cocktailjurken 2013 relatively small design house," one of her friends told the Daily Mail.

"But make no mistake, whoever's name emerges on the day, this is very much Catherine's dress."

The gown is reportedly being made by Sophie Cranston. Her name is being kept secret to stop her being besieged by news outlets.

Cranston, 34, won the prestigious Designer of the Year Award at Britain's Graduate Fashion Week in 1999 and worked for McQueen, before setting up the Temperley label in 2000 with Alice Temperley.

Though not royal wedding couture, Prime Minister Julia Gillard will wear an outfit comprising pieces from several Australian designers at the April 29 nuptials.

Ms Gillard said Australia's gift would be a $25,000 donation to the Royal Flying Doctor Service, after the couple asked for a donation to a nominated charity.
